Pros: Good mixture of emerging and legacy technology (USB 2/3, SATA 2/3, standard video, digital, hdmi) The hardware that isn't working in linux I suspected might not work, and I was pleasantly surprised that audio over HDMI worked. Overall Review: The somewhat choppy video and nonfunctional USB 3.0 ports in linux lead me to wonder if I would've had these problems had I gone with an Intel chipset. Too bad, I would've liked to use the HDMI with audio. But because of it I've decided I'm going to use a discrete Nvidia card I have lying around.

Using the open source drivers everything is much better, but there are some dropped frames watching video. And optical audio wasn't working out of the box.Īlso, using the proprietary AMD video drivers graphics are unbelievably choppy and video is unwatchable. The 2 USB 3.0 ports don't work in linux because there are no drivers for the Etron EJ168 chipset. At one point I got sparks and smoke, but it's still working fine. I've been testing it outside of a case and I have to short the power jumpers. The 2 USB 3.0 ports don't work - not even as USB 2.0 - because there are no linux drivers for the chipset and optical audio didn't work out of the box, but it might be possible to enable it somehow.Ĭons: The cons I have that aren't specific to linux are the lack of power and reset buttons on the motherboard and no eSATA. HDMI, DVI, ethernet, analog audio, and audio over HDMI all work.
